The Music Blog Awards

For all those checking to see what we are about...here's some info about who we are and what are goals are...thanks!

INTRODUCTION

Every few years, the music industry changes forever. This year, it’s going to happen again.

There are three ways that the industry changes.

First, in the way we listen to music. In the 60s, people sat in basements spinning vinyl to all hours of the night. The 80s gave us the compact disc with higher quality music in a smaller package. But then, in the late 90s, a little program called Napster set a course that would, in turn, make the CD…extinct. Now people pack an entire library of music in their pocket. The MP3 now reigns the world of music.

Secondly, it changes in the way we learn about music. In the 60s, Rolling Stone was the authoritative voice on what was cool. The 80s ushered in the MTV-era as music videos became the voice of cool. In the dawn of the new century, Music blogs are now the ones who decide what the world should be listening to.

And lastly, the industry changes in the way we celebrate it. In 1959, at the first ever Grammy Award ceremony, Domenico Modugno beat out Frank Sinatra and Peggy Lee for the Record of the Year. In 1984, the Cars took home the first Moonman statue from the MTV Music Video Awards. In 2007, some artist will be lucky enough to be the first ever to win a MUBA award for album of the year.

THE MUSIC BLOG AWARDS

The Music Blog Awards are the first award show to combine the way today’s audience listens to music (MP3s), discovers music (music blogs), and celebrates it (the MUBA).

Artists will be nominated in a variety of categories by the authors of some of the most popular music blogs on the internet. (see the blog list on the following page)

Five artists will be nominated in each category. Final nominees will be announced on January 22nd, 2007.

The music bloggers will vote for their favorite finalist in each category.

In early March, we will hold the 1st Annual Music Blog Award presentation.
